Manitowoc Crane Division Expands 19/10/2007

An additional 50,000sq ft ground floor space is part of an expansion project for Manitowoc’s crane division in Manitowoc, Wisconsin.

The project will cost an estimated $25 million in order to renovate and uplift the facilities for the company to enhance productivity levels. It has recently been discovered that Manitowoc has plans to expand the fabrication company which is based in Port Washington, Wisconsin. Plans are expected to commence in late August.

Executive vice president for the crane’s division in the American region, Larry Weyers has said ‘the expansion is not only a sign of the strength of the crawler crane market worldwide, but also reinforces Manitowoc’s commitment to quality and innovation. The renovations will not only help us meet a growing demand for crawler cranes,” he said. “But it will also support future product development efforts.”

Three extra building and new equipment are to be included in the expansion which will have a substantial amount of capital invested into it. One of the buildings measures at 20,000sq ft, will be used for storing Model 18000 and model 21000 – two of Manitowoc’s largest crawler models. A 33,000 ft building and paint addition is also part of the renovation plans. In this facility a paint booth, two extra loading bays and oven along with a reassembling area. The third new building is to be an area for the use of the staff. It will include a lunch room, a room to store tools in and locker rooms.

A new burn table, tooling and new fixtures, a burn table and paint booth for small parts and a boring bar is to be included in the capital investment. Manitowoc’s crane division’s vice president of operation Steve Brahm has said that these developments are part of a major on-going investment scheme for the company.

“The Manitowoc Company, our parent company, has continued to financially support crane manufacturing globally,” he said. “In addition to facility improvements, we’ve also been able to add nearly 300 new manufacturing jobs within the last two years in the US alone.”
